Minister Konneh At World Conference In Brazil

Finance Minister Amara Konneh has departed the country to attend a high-level United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro. The conference begins June 13, 2012.

Minister Konneh will be among 500 delegates including world Leaders, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Parliamentarians, and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who are expected to take decisions and announce commitments and galvanize actions on how to reduce poverty and inequality and at the same time ensure environmental protection throughout the world.

The Finance Ministry Press Release says delegates at the Conference are expected to set a sustainability agenda for the next 20 years toward identifying solutions and goals to tackle urgent global challenges such as the lack of access to energy and clean water, food insecurity among others.

World Leaders at the Rio +20 UN conference will decide on ways to boost corporate sustainability, create green jobs, advance the role of science and innovation, close technology gaps, generate needed financing and improve mechanisms for international cooperation.
